IWC finally resurrected Reference 3705 Fliegerchronograph, and carried out a modern update, including a brand-new internal movement and a case made of IWC’s proprietary cerium alloy.
The pilot’s watch replica chronograph “Tribute 3705” is in most respects a faithful replica of the 90s classic, but there are some notable exceptions in terms of appearance and interior. The 41mm case is not made of the original black ceramic, but made of Ceratanium, which not only has the hardness and scratch resistance of the former, but also retains the lightness and sturdiness of the latter.
The crown, chronograph button and pin buckle are all made of the same material. The layout of the black frosted dial slightly rearranges the subdials of the older models: now, the small seconds is displayed at 6 o’clock, while the 30-minute and 12-hour chronographs are displayed at 12 and 9 o’clock in total.
The date and date display at 3 o’clock remain unchanged, while the white azimuth triangle at 12 o’clock now has two points on either side, just like a classic pilot’s fake watch. The convex sapphire crystal is treated with double-sided non-reflective treatment to prevent a drop in air pressure in the cockpit.
The self-winding movement is used in high-end chronographs throughout the entire modern collection of IWC Replica Watch. It is equipped with a column-wheel chronograph movement, a 46-hour power reserve and IWC’s innovative two-way pawl winding system. The movement runs with 33 jewels, beats at a balanced frequency of 28,800 vph, and has a hacking mechanism.
The pilot’s chronograph “Tribute to 3705” is mounted on a black calfskin strap, just like its historical predecessor, but in this case by design.
